Fort Concho will host a Regional Cavalry Competition under the rules and guidelines of the United States Cavalry Association (USCA). Events will include classroom instruction, field instruction, combat horsemanship, and competition in jumping, pistol, and saber. The course and regulations will be the same as those in effect for the USCA annual event held at Fort Reno, OK. The event will be open to the public for the competition days of April 19-21, and some of the evening dinners will also be open to guests at a small charge for the meal.
Come and celebrate the region’s agricultural and ranching heritage with special displays, exhibits, living history, Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, 1800s Base Ball, booths for vendors and children’s activities. Plus, all main fort buildings will be open. There is no charge for this half-day event beyond the fee for the pancake breakfast ($5.00).
Dozens of booths and activity areas will bring alive our region’s past at this annual event. Come spend a free day at Fort Concho viewing exhibits and demonstrations that include Archeology programs, Native American Life and Culture, Fort Period Military Life, Early Settlers, Travel and Daily Life, and a variety of hands-on activities.
